UPA49 - 68 Lots Available for LIVE BIDDING via the-saleroom.com
Wednesday 10th April, 5pm (UK time)

LOT 1 : GENERAL, Thematic - ORCHIDS collection ... Housed in 3 of the largest stockbooks - almost bursting in places - more of a 'new issues' type of worldwide issued Orchids collection with the feeling that these were being amassed even into the last 10 years ready for re-organisation and real strength in the 80's and thru late 90's - with virtually everything being mint and probably unmounted. We are reliably informed that over £3,000 was expended upon the collection so far and we can believe it. Extraordinary opportunity and may 'extend' one of the other collections in this auction. Very well filled and probably up to 1500 stamps/items +/-. Hard to replicate at reasonable cost. Scans / photos can be uploaded onto the internet to give a better idea if required. Heavy lot - overseas shipping available at extra cost - please enquire., £1096

LOT 3 : GENERAL, Thematic - FLOWERS - Charming original A-Z collection housed in 13 well used well filled matching blue binders - mint and used - perhaps predominantly mint with much unmounted - all on 'hagner' type leaves for easy re-organisation and 'runs' / mainly sets seen to 2008 / 2009 in places. Amassed at quite considerable cost - another truly delightful collection ripe for continuation - better with China 1960 Chrysanthemums used, ditto 1964 cto used, 1982 plants m/s u.m. 1984 Garden m/s u.m. - ditto 1985 Mei Floers m/s u.m., more Flowers m/s and sets follow. Other countries earlier material to 1940's occasionally noted, GB 1967 Flowers set maximum cards 'Hawthorn' CDS (£175) - absolutely charming, almost refreshing collection probably consisting of low 1,000's of stamps/items. Believed to have cost several £1,000 to put together and enormous effort. Ideal for continuation. UK delivery at standard £7.50 charge - this is a heavy collection - overseas shipping - please enquire extra cost., £1253

LOT 7 : GENERAL, Thematic - FUNGI collection - By volume the only larger thematic collection we have handled in recent years was the 'Icarus' 81 volume collection of 'birds' which 'broke' to over £35,000 of estimates - by size this colection runs an impressive second. All World Fungi collection with significant depth in Eastern Eoropean material and an absolute fortune expended upon mainly mint Russian Federation material - but we are not just talking relatively modern - perhaps up to the very late 90's - but the collection spans some 50 years with massive numbers of pre-sorted / arranged covers and cards and a boxful of unsorted 'Fungi' / miscellaneous material. We count some 17 'foolscap' size box-files - mainly well filled + a further 13 stockbooks of assorted sizes. We observe some items that may be scarce - but only a 'fungi' specialist will really know. We were informed £4,000 in terms of replacement value for this collection and we could imagine it being more. This is a VERY HEAVY collection - we can ship it anywhere in the world - but please ask cost before bidding .... UK bidders delivery by courier is the standard £7.50. We would estimate 4 to 5 good size boxes, includes Domfil Fungi catalogue 2nd edition. Any extra information required - please enquire. We must be talking 1,000's and 1,000's of stamps / items., £1880

LOT 8 : GENERAL, S1, 1852 INDIA - 1/2a White, 'Scinde Dawk', 2 large margin cut square examples apparently tied to original piece by dotted cancellation through missing 'heart' shaped centre of right hand stamp. Accompanied by 2012 Brandon photo-certifcate of authenticity which states 'two used copies are both genuine, but both are creased or cracked, the right hand stamp has the centre missing and the adhesives may not belong to the piece to which they are affixed.' The embossing on both examples being fine and well depicted, the margins being exceptional. A desirable Indian rarity difficult to value in today's Indian market. Cat £3600, Plate 2 view image, £1175

LOT 10 : GENERAL, 1935 GIBRALTAR - 1/- 'Union Jack' Essay by Henry Schubert, the famous 'UNION JACK' ESSAY was actually intended for 'Omnibus' issue - the proposed but unaccepted design, printed by Waterlow & Sons one of only 4 examples produced. Superb colour detail and impression, hint of aging just visible NW, irregular perfs and small thin otherwise large part original gum with unobtrusive hinging towards upper reverse. An Outstanding Rarity, we have not checked if there is one other example in the Queen's Collection - this example was sold for £4,400 by Western Auctions in 2007 (original invoice accompanies). A joy to describe this little gem., Plate 14 view image, £3133

With approaching 4,000 mint stamps mostly housed inside black 'hawid' mounts remarkably well-filled with relatively few spaces seeking occupants, and as time moves on increasing proportions of unmounted mint never hinged. This really is an original intact collection which will benefit from renewed attention and remounting, strong in BOB (back of book) with dues, OHMS and G's, the collector has also devoted interest to booklet panes from KGV onwards. Petering out in the last few years to 2010. Catalogue value must be significant. Usually we would break this type of collection but it seems like sacrilege to do so. An exceptional opportunity - please call for verbal report or ask for scans / pictures if interested. UK standard shipping, overseas shipping please enquire. (1.000's), £5000
